How is this different from macOS built-in speech?
SpeakEasy uses Kokoro, an AI voice model that sounds dramatically more natural than Apple's built-in voices. It runs locally on your Mac's Neural Engine — no internet needed.
Is it really fully offline?
Yes. The default Kokoro engine runs 100% on-device. The 99MB AI model is bundled with the app. Cloud engines (OpenAI, ElevenLabs) are optional extras that require your own API key.
What about Chrome and Brave?
The direct download version works seamlessly in all browsers. The App Store version works in Safari and Firefox natively, and in Chrome after enabling accessibility in chrome://accessibility.
